Anyone looking for new listening material, let me introduce you to my new favourite thing

I know I don't post much anymore, even about my travels, but sometimes something comes up that I simply have to talk about. To that end, I'm making this post public. (Seeing as how the contents of this post would be against LJ's new ToS, I won't be crossposting there - or indeed, posting there ever again.) Let me ask a few questions.

- Are you a noir-loving mystery buff who's fed up of the misogyny, homophobia etc. that seems to run rampant through the genre?

- Are you sick of playing 'Spot the Token Non-cishet Character' in the media you consume?

- Are you depressed and would like more stories about depressed characters where the entire plot is not actually about their depression?

- Are you into detective/thief pairings where your flirtatious banter comes with a side-order of death-defying escapades and saving the world together?

(And if not, how do you feel about a lesbian bandit and her schoolteacher wife running an orphanage, or a disabled aspiring knight whose horse's legs make up for his own? Not to mention some incredibly creepy standalone horror eps.)

If the answer to some or all of the above is 'yes', then click on the cut and let me introduce you to the joys of 'The Penumbra Podcast'. (If you already listen to it, then good for you! Come talk to me about it!)

Dream Boys @ Imperial Garden Theatre, 2012/09/27, 13:00

My last DB ever, most likely, so I'm happy to have ended on a high note. What follows beneath the cut is not much of a report, just a few random scraps, but the gist of it is: Kame manages to impress me more than anyone else on the planet on a regular basis, and someone really needs to give Miyata his own stage show. I'd even pay to see it.

[CONCERT] TOKIO - Nippon Budokan 23/09/12 16:00

This is the only post I'm making today, so...congratulations to Akanishi Jin and Kuroki Meisa on the birth of their little girl! ^_^ I am not into kids but I wish them the best of luck.

Meanwhile! Today was the last day of TOKIO's 1718 live tour, which I attended with [livejournal.com profile] floinvietnam. They were recording and broadcasting it in cinemas across Japan, and I didn't take my notebook out, just scribbled down a couple of things afterwards. So here are a few snippets so I don't forget!

Dream Boys @ Imperial Garden Theatre, 2012/09/21, 13:00

I don't imagine anyone who isn't on my f-list actually reads these anymore, but just in case, the usual applies: feel free to link, quote, translate etc.

Well, according to my LJ it's been almost exactly a year since I last went to see a performance of Dream Boys, and this is probably the last year for me. The show might well go on, but it'll do so without me. (Priorities, you know?) After all these years I have finally managed to get to the theatre by a consistent route, which is quite possibly a sign that it's time to move on.

Which is not to say I didn't enjoy my first round of this year's show; in fact, I'd almost consider picking up a third ticket for Miyata and Senga alone! And Kame is, of course, my high-flying god. But as with last year, I'm limited in who I can identify outside the main cast, so if you're reading for the Juniors, you might as well stop here. (Though I can tell you that Ishigaki Daisuke is as lovely as ever.)

I have no memory, an inability to read my own terrible handwritten scrawl (as done in a darkened theatre), and I got kind of sidetracked watching Kame, but if you're prepared for all that, read on!

[CON] Jin Akanishi @ The Regency Ballroom 17/03/2012 19:30

Dear Psycho Fangirls Who Slammed Me into a Door and Tried to Crush My Right Hand,

Thank you for making what should've been a fantastic night into an extremely painful one. It is not acceptable to try to kill people at a concert, no matter how much you like the performer you're there to see. Please learn to be aware of your surroundings, and of people other than yourselves. I hope you all suffer a slow, painful death in the middle of your worst nightmare, you immature, inconsiderate hellcats.

No love, but a whole lot of hate,

A tiny English girl with very sore arms and shoulders

-----

I know the above won't apply to anyone reading this, but I feel better for venting. Pain aside, I had a great final show! :-)

Oh, guys, where do I start? This wasn't the best Jin concert I've been to; not by a long shot. But the evening had the best start and by far the best ending. After all, it's not every day a girl has Jin asking her for a hug.

[REVIEW] Gokusen 2 - 10

See disclaimer in first post. No screencaps this week (8 and 9 have them, though) as I didn't see anything I felt I absolutely had to cap, and I went mad enough snapping pretty Ryu shots for the previous episode!

[REVIEW] Gokusen 2 - 09

See disclaimer in first post. I'm a bit pushed for time over the next few weeks, so I'm aiming to get the series finished by next weekend. There are a few screencaps dotted here and there, just for colour, but be warned that they are quite small as I'm watching files converted for my iPod.
