I'm not even going to try and comment on your review on episode 1, or I'll never catch up. Also, though episode 1 intrigued me (in terms of 'OMG what's going on between those two guys and is this going to be as good as I think it might be?'), it's episode 2 which came through and sold me on this series -- even though I'd taken several months to even consider giving it a chance since with Shin out of the picture and essentially a reset of everything else, I didn't think there could be anything here to interest me.

...the first thing he does when he reaches his desk is turn back to look at Hayato, who's staring at him with one of those 'of all the classrooms in all the schools, why did you have to walk into mine?' looks. Ryu responds with a stony glare.
Why, yes. That would be the UST. All that staring, that obsessive want want want want want staring insufficently disguised as contempt and hostility. Could they have been any more obvious?
...a "Oh yes, Ryu, right there!" kind of sound...
That... had never occurred to me before. Clearly my mind isn't dirty enough. Thank you for helping me out; I look forward to watching the episode for the seventh (or so) time.
What a sweet gangster. How on Earth does he make any money?
He doesn't. That's how the yakuza didn't have enough ready cash in the previous ep to buy Ryuu-chan out of his 'captivity'.
Ryu's got that "Hmph, what a moron..." expression again.
I wonder if he doesn't sometimes get a bit embarrassed by Hayato's antics. OTOH, maybe when they're talking, he's a restraining (heee, okay, yes, yes) influence.
He's got a desperate need to prove he's not some little kid, so he challenges Yankumi to a fight...
I have to say that he (and the show) almost lost me there. It is so utterly moronic to try to prove himself by beating up a tiny woman... stupidity like that just gets to me. The saving grace was that I knew this comes from the manga, and while they did really well in season 1 in selecting the better bits from the manga and leaving out the idiocy, season 2 was clearly scraping the bottom of the barrel. So I meta-ed myself into forgiving him for his stupidity, just this once. :-)
...as Hayato removes his jacket and tosses it behind him...
And looks gorgeous. Just mentioning this randomly.
Hayato collapses in slow motion and winds up panting on the ground...

It is a very fetching look on him.
Ryu and Yankumi have one of those psychic moments where they both know Hayato's gone off to do something heroic but stupid...
Hm, I'm not sure I'd call that stupid. I think he's got a point when he says there wasn't much else he could do.
Hayato insists that he alone is enough to take care of all the Ara High guys. I have my doubts.
What I thought he meant was, not that he can take care of them, but that they can have him. And that that should be enough. But maybe your reading is right... maybe he was trying to provoke them to make sure they got the business done quickly. :-)
Ryu looks very cool, snapping sticks over his knee and generally making a whirlwind of himself...
Ryuu looks like a much better fighter than Hayato. IDK if it's because he simply is one or because he was more serious about it there.
That moment when Ryuu appeared? I may have made a little sound like the one Hayato makes when playing darts. That was PERFECT.
If not for the fact that they're both getting horribly beaten, it would be cute - they actually try to crawl towards each other.
I'm afraid I find it cute even so.
Aren't they adorable?
They so totally totally are! :-)
Gokusen 2: where matching bruises are a sign of true love and you have to squeeze in kisses on the days you don't have a cut lip.
Or you just kiss very very carefully...
