See this post for explanation of why I take Yukan Club at face value and enjoy myself thoroughly. That said, on with commentary on the third episode.

Yukan Club - Episode 3

Plot: Runaway brides (some female, some male) are the order of the day as the Yukan Club get involved in the wedding between the gold-digging Ayumi-senpai and the evil, false-hair-wearing Shinkame. Not quite a match made in heaven, is it? Ayumi and Karen are two of a kind - determined to marry into riches (hello, Takako Mk. 2) - and Ayumi has ditched her old boyfriend, Seiji (who appropriately is the guy who played Sugiura in YTM) in favour of some serious money. Or has she? When Seiji's hospitalised and Ayumi comes to her senses, the Shinkame Group won't let her out of their sight and are determined that the wedding will take place, come hell, high water, yakuza, attempted murder and an undercover investigation involving the boss of the Shirafuji-gumi. In other news, Miroku is so overcome by emotion at the Shirafuji boss's tale of his not-so-long-lost daughter that he (and indeed, everyone else in the room, including three yakuza, two hapless cop sidekicks and Miroku's dad) bursts into tears. Again. Aww...

Episode 3's ratings dropped a little, which is a pity as I found it very amusing. Not to mention, in addition to the always-gorgeous BGM we had a lovely instrumental version of Keep the Faith playing while Miroku was talking to Seiji. I don't know if we've heard it before, but it was beautiful. *hopes it's on the OST*

Miroku's dad continues to entertain me with his disguises and blustering, this time employing an afro, a tambourine and an absolutely awful alias. Little did he suspect that when he checked himself into hospital to keep an eye on the Shirafuji boss, he'd overhear his own son being asked to take over the group. Miroku really does have friends everywhere, doesn't he?

And of course, man's best friend, Otokoyama, finally made another appearance. But really, Miroku, do you expect your dog to answer you when you ask him his opinion on marriage? It doesn't surprise me at all that Miroku says he hasn't considered it, but I think Bido's response was undoubtedly the best. Junno's so good at this playboy part, particularly when he offered himself as to Ayumi as a "snack" for when she was done with her "meal".

Yuri's family are fun! I guess her mother can be a little scary, though. And hell, I'd settle for five million as a wedding gift. Must be nice to be so ridiculously rich that you're able to seriously contemplate whether a ten million yen wedding gift is enough for your senpai.

Yoko makes one tough broad bride. He definitely needs to beat more people up while wearing a wedding dress and I admire his ability to move in that thing. I didn't realise Seishirou had such a flair for the dramatic, though - his speech is just full of significant pauses and small flourishes.

Yuri's ability to eat anything finally comes in handy as she swallows up the marriage paper, having first delivered a rather nasty kick to a Shinkame thug which, I suspect, will leave him incapable of bearing children. Her outfit was really cute, too, albeit kind of odd for a wedding.

The principal and the vice-principal (or whatever they were) get on my nerves. Not that the rest of the characters aren't cliched, but these two...they're in absolutely every school series. They did, however, have an excellent moment when Bido entered the chapel, having forgotten to wipe off his lip gloss. I'm not sure they're really the sort of people he wants to be getting make-up tips from, but whatever...

In any case, Bido made a great bride himself, complete with cute little twirls and blowing kisses. (I swear Junno lives for these moments.) The best scene in the entire episode? When he threw his bouquet and the henchwoman caught it, and all the other Shinkame thugs (one of whom looks remarkably like Oguri Shun) stopped to congratulate her and wish her well. Aww.

No surprise that Ayumi was Shirafuji's biological daughter, of course, but we're not watching this series for deep and impenetrable plots. (Though from some of Seishirou's tone of voice and Miroku's attempts at looking thoughtful, you'd think otherwise.) I'd like a Gokusen cross-over where we find out that Miroku actually knows Yankumi's grandfather. Maybe Bido is her type? Nah, I suppose it's more likely to be Seishirou...

And of course, no Yukan Club commentary (from me, anyway) is complete without a few words about Miroku. More tears, please. ^_^ Miroku's "stealth mode" involves some particularly dorky running and muttering "Yabai yabai yabai" (maybe he's a MatsuJun fan?), so I appreciate that even though they couldn't dress him up as a decoy bride 'cause he had to be the action hero, they couldn't make him overly cool. The outfit was, though. *purrs* And it rides up so nicely when he ends up writhing around on a hospital bed... *forces mind out of gutter* The school uniform doesn't really suit any of them that well, but when they're in civilian clothing, Miroku definitely comes off the best.

The preview for this week's episode looks most entertaining. Actual drama! *shock* Seriously creepy dolls! (Note to self: finish watching Ayatsuri Sakon.) Blood! Bido in danger! Jin trying really hard to look scared but not quite succeeding! (Perhaps they should stick him in a haunted house.)

For the lulz I'm rereading your Yukan club reviews while eating lunch (before going to do productivey things like class) and I saw this phrase:

I'd like a Gokusen cross-over where we find out that Miroku actually knows Yankumi's grandfather. Maybe Bido is her type? Nah, I suppose it's more likely to be Seishirou...

RAWR. Although I'm trying to imagine writing that. Actually, she and Yuri are very similar stereotypes in some ways? She might fit in well, I think. (Maybe she ends up teaching a younger sister of Seishiro's or something? that seems unlikely unless Seishiro's family has a delinquent daughter we don't know anything about.)

and then she meets Miroku and starts having flashbacks to Hayato

(I still think someone ought to write the Hayato/Ryuu DELINQUENT BABIES drabble. o.O;; )

sent to live with obscure relatives in the middle of nowhere and told to come back when they've earned at least three degrees
Yeah, but then you risk them saying 'screw it all' and going off and becoming, I don't know, forest rangers. Hm. Intriguing possibility. I do like Seishiro getting saddled with parent-teacher conferences, um.

(WAIT WAIT. MAYBE IN THE EPIC YUUKAN MUNCHLETS FIC.)

while Yankumi's current crop of students would take bets on the outcome of the fight.
And then she'd stop the fight in the middle to correct the way they're calculating odds.

You can think it all you want
If I wrote it, would you read it?
